COVID 19: MY ORAL HEALTH

Image
With recent emergence of novel virus COVID -19 pandemic, many dental offices across the country are closed down while some are already postponing non emergency dental treatment. Hence, it's more important to keep good oral health home care.
HOME CARE FOR GOOD ORAL HEALTH Always wash your hands before and after any personal dental care.Brush twice daily with flouride containing toothpaste and medium textured tooth brush.Brush your tongue regularly. Check hereFloss a dayEat a well - balanced diet for oral and general health well being.Include detergent food in your diet for cleansing and health oral cavity.Limit frequency of snackingLimit sugary drinks like soda and fruit juices which can be harmful to teeth surfaces.Drink plenty of waterAvoid smokingUse of Mouth guard for contact sport

HABITS THAT ARE HARMFUL TO YOUR TEETH

Sugary and Acidic Drinks
Sugary  and energy drinks are harmful to your teeth, especially if taking throughout or at intervals of the day. The acids wear away  the enamel, making it more susceptible to bacteria attack.
Solution: if thirsty, drink water only. If you must have an occasional sugary or  energy drink, consume it at one sitting and rinse with water afterwards.
Using Your Teeth as Tools
Teeth are meant for chewing food and that’s all! Not for improvising as cockscrew, openers etc. or cutting all manners of things.
Solution: Find the right tool for the job!
Nail Biting
Constant nail biting  can cause teeth and fillings to chip and wear.
Solution: Avoid it
Brushing Too Hard
Brushing too hard does more harm than good to the teeth. Wears away the enamel hence, predisposing the teeth to sensitivity and bacteria attack.
Solution: Brush gently and effectively with the right technique using a soft toothbrush.
Grinding and Clenching
Bruxism (grinding) and clenching, especially at night while asleep, is a very destructive habit. It causes tooth wear, fracturing of dental restorations and can contribute to jaw joint dysfunction and muscle soreness.
Solution: If it’s during the day you can catch yourself and stop. Remember the Rule: Lips together- teeth apart! While sleeping you don’t have that control and therefore would need a Night Guard to protect the teeth and jaw muscles.
