COVID 19: MY ORAL HEALTH

With recent emergence of novel virus COVID -19 pandemic, many dental offices across the country are closed down while some are

already postponing non emergency dental treatment. Hence, it's more important to keep good oral health home care.

HOME CARE FOR GOOD ORAL HEALTH

• Always wash your hands before and after any personal dental care.
• Brush twice daily with flouride containing toothpaste and medium textured tooth brush.
• Brush your tongue regularly. Check here
• Floss a day
• Eat a well - balanced diet for oral and general health well being.
• Include detergent food in your diet for cleansing and health oral cavity.
• Limit frequency of snacking
• Limit sugary drinks like soda and fruit juices which can be harmful to teeth surfaces.
• Drink plenty of water
• Avoid smoking
• Use of Mouth guard for contact sport

HOME CARE FOR SOME ARISING DENTAL ISSUES

• Dental pain may be of different origin, severity or complication.

1. For pain without swelling - common over-the-counter (OTC) pain medicine can help. Paracetamol or Ibruprofen from your local pharmacy
2. For pain with swelling -

• OTC analgesics and antibiotics
• Warm water and salt for relief.
• Consult our dentist if swelling persist or comprising the airway.

• Broken or ill - fitting denture - Search your local pharmacy for denture glue kits and denture reline kits.
• Fractured tooth, lost filling - Get OTC temporary filling material from your local pharmacy shop.
• Lost tooth, lost crown or bridge - Get temporary tooth repair kit or false teeth mould with glue from your local pharmacy shop

Gum, Cheek, Tongue and lip pain/ulcer -

• Use of OTC analgesic.
• Use of warm water and salt mouth wash.
• Use of medicated gel on the ulcer.

DENTAL EMERGENCY

• Uncontrolled oral bleeding
• Bacterial infection/swelling that could compromise the patient airway.
• Severe dental pain not relieved by analgesic and antibiotics.
• Trauma involving the facial bones.
• Any other abnormal oral symptoms.
